The James Bulger Case Criminology Essay

The James Bulger Case Criminology Essay Both Attard and murder.co.uk present the case by saying that on the twelfth of February, Denise Bulger took her child, Jamie, to her nearby strip mall in Bootle,Liverpool at around 3.30 p.m. After nine minutes she understood that her child was not close to her any longer and began to search for him. She went to security , police were approached the spot and together they viewed CCTV cameras of the mall to attempt to figure out what befell the kid. Jamie was seen leaving the premises close by two different young men and the police barely cared about it as nobody could have ever constructed out the awful occasions that followed so they set out to scan for him and the two young men. After several days , a few kids were playing close to a train railroad and saw what they thought was a doll or something comparative. At the point when they drew near to the assumed doll , they saw the most unpleasant picture one could envision ; a little children body cut in half.Police were again approache d the spot and introductory signs indicated that the body had a place with Jamie Bulger. After this repulsive find , police extended its examination in any event, utilizing the media as an intend to get to the base of every last bit of it with the kids seen going with him in the tape being the prime suspects. A tip came in on who the young men may be, and two young men both matured 10 ;Jon Venables and Robert Thompson (their personality was just uncovered after the condemning) were taken in to be interrogated. The two young men were sent to court and attempted with the homicide of Jamie Bulger. The preliminary started in November of 1993, and the awful occasions of this horrifying homicide were uncovered to stun the country as well as the entire world. In the wake of leaving the premises along with Jamie Bulger , Jon Venables and Robert Thompson took him on a 2.5 mile trip beating him en route until they arrived at the railroad. Once there, Jamie was additionally beaten, tossed stone s and paint at, and had his pants and shoes evacuated suggesting maybe a rape (never proven.)In option to this, Jamie was hit with an iron pole for around multiple times , prompting his passing. A while later, the young men put Jamie on the railroad completely realizing that a train would come soon to attempt to cover their awful activities by maybe inferring that Jamie would have strolled there all alone, fell , and hit by a train. This shows the full cleverness of the young men and that they knew precisely what they were doing. Both Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were seen as blameworthy and sent to in any event 8 years detainment in a confinement community. B)Background Of Case The measurable proof introduced in James Bulgers case end up being extremely solid and lead to the young men being seen as blameworthy past any sensible uncertainty. Measurable researchers, for example, Graham Jackson , Andy Mulley and Philip Rydeard figured out how to infer that blood found on the presumes coordinated that of the people in question yet not simply this , Rydeard likewise figured out how to demonstrate that the shoe qualities of one of the young men was found on the person in question. Various paint-marks were discovered both on the people in question and the speculates garments. These imprints , light-blue in shading , built up that this paint was utilized during or before the homicide. This assisted with promoting reinforce the proof presented against Jon Venables and Robert Thompson. http://www.crimeandinvestigation.co.uk/wrongdoing documents/james-bulger/trial.html The quantity of blows that James experienced the young men were various to the point that no scientific researcher had the option to figure out which blow was the deadly one. http://www.trutv.com/library/wrongdoing/notorious_murders/youthful/bulger/6.html Tape accounts of the young men cross examinations were appeared in court as proof by the indictment. A pathologist , Alan Williams, used for the situation reasoned that James Bulgers prepuce had been controlled with. In this way , this may suggest that there was a sexual component in the homicide , a thought that was never demonstrated as the proof was uncertain. http://www.independent.co.uk/expressions amusement/reevaluating the-proof a-year-prior this-week-james-bulger-was-killed by-two-11yearold-young men the-wrongdoing shook-the-country the-young men were-attempted indicted and-bolted away-however what-do-we-think about-them-do-we-know-why-they-did-it-following quite a while of-investigate incorporating interviews-with-guardians of-both-young men we-distribute in-two-sections the-story-that-has-not-been-told-1392400.html This proof was maybe the most vulnerable introduced in court against the youthful respondents. Notwithstanding this , the strip malls CCTV tapes , the various weapons, for example, 27 blocks , stones and the 22lb iron bar were totally introduced in court to additionally expel all prospects of the young men blamelessness. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/james-bulger-endured various cracks pathologist-uncovers twoyearold-had-42-wounds including-broke skull-jonathan-encourage reports-1503297.html 38 observers likewise stood up all colloquialism that they saw Bulger going with Venables and Thompson on Bulgers lethal excursion to the railway.A lady affirmed that she even halted them and was going to take Bulger to the police headquarters herself yet pulled back from doing as such and confided in the young men with the mission , small realizing what they were up to.http://www.murderuk.com/child_killers_thompson_venables.html The proof introduced for the situation is both solid and one of a kind , the blood found on the casualty was coordinated with that of the suspect, the paint was likewise equivalent on both the person in question and the suspects , while the shoeprint of one of the speculates was found on the casualties body.In expansion to this , CCTV cameras assumed a key job for this situation as they demonstrated the young men leaving the shopping premises while other CCTV cameras of premises prompting the railroad additionally indicated Bulger being joined by Venables and Thompson. .http://www.murderuk.com/child_killers_thompson_venables.html C(investigation) After the suspects were taken in to be interrogated, the police began to associate that the contribution with Venables and Thompson in the homicide was practically sure , yet they needed to demonstrate this and the way that the suspects were both 10 years of age didn't help them all. Since the young men were younger than 14 , a particular arrangement of inquiries were posed by the police with the goal that they can decide if the speculates knew directly from wrong and this would assist with crushing the thought of doli incapax in court. The young men vary in their response to cross examination, Venables is frightened of going to jail , Thompson then again , keeps his self-control and remains cool in spite of completely knowing the consequences. They both beginning to gradually give subtleties of the case with Venables expressing that he was at the territory however never at the strip mall , Thompson then again gives a distinctive portrayal of Bulger including the outfit Bulger was wea ring the day of the murder. The police at last notification that Thompson can not disguise his apprehension at whatever point Bulger is referenced until at last he breaks and concedes that they had taken him to the railway. On the twentieth of February 1993 , in the wake of managning to gather enough proof , the police were at long last ready to charge both Venables and Thompson with the seizing and homicide of Bulger. http://www.crimeandinvestigation.co.uk/wrongdoing documents/james-bulger/trial.html In spite of the way that the examination was dealt with consistently very much given the young age of the suspects , by and by I despite everything accept that it could have been taken care of better. As a matter of first importance, I would have gotten the observers infront of the suspects to see the speculates response to them and maybe get the admission out of them quicker. Notwithstanding this , I would have attempted to put the way that the suspects were unimportant young men aside however much as could reasonably be expected and battled for an admission as well as maybe for a clarification with respect to why they submitted the awful homicide. This would have been exceptionally useful in court, not simply to show the mindfulness that the young men had of the idea of the wrongdoing they submitted, yet to additionally build up whether these young men were a danger to society or whether this was simply something that occurred with no conceivable clarification. The weight the polic e had from both the media and the entire country positively didn't help them in their examination and maybe this is the reason the police were searching for an admission as speedy as could be expected under the circumstances. Since the media was depicting the suspects as beasts it more likely than not been difficult for the police to feel for the suspects as they couldn't comprehend why these young men had submitted this murder. This would be the place my examination would contrast, as I wouldve become a close acquaintence with the suspects , hard as it would have been , so as to attempt to get reality maybe by doing what you would with do any child ; offering them a prize for their collaboration. This , I accept , would have assumed a vital job in getting an admission out of the young men. D) Why it Happened?(Criminological speculations) Various criminological hypotheses could be placed into question in James Bulgers case yet maybe the most disputable one could be applied for this situation; Cesare Lombrosos Born-Criminal hypothesis. This criminological hypothesis is inarguably the most perilous one as it gives no coherent clarification as the hoodlums themselves can not clarify why they carry out specific violations and nobody can perceive these crimininals aside from their uncommon attributes or their odd conduct as indicated by Lombroso. http://roxbury.net/pictures/pdfs/ct4ssg.pdf This hypothesis could be applied for this situation as the young men never gave any genuine clarification to why they carried out the wrongdoing, which may have been because of the way that they didn't have any intelligent clarification which regardless of whether not so much, it backs the Born-Criminal hypothesis. This idea of being brought into the world criminal is additionally supported by the analysts who took care of this case as they could locate no other conceivable legitimization why kids could kill kids the same. Then again , on account of Robert Thompson , the criminogenic family he was

Binge eating disorder free essay sample

Hello everyone. My name is Ruth and I want to talk to you guys about eating disorders. An eating disorder is essentially an illness that disrupts a person’s every day diet which can cause a person to pretty much stop eating or over eat, depending on the illness. These illnesses are more apparent in the teenage years and in to young adulthood (Pinel, 2011), which makes sense because this is when we start becoming more aware of our bodies as well as other people’s bodies. We might want to look like the model we just saw on TV and will do anything to get that body, right? But an eating disorder is not the way to go; we will get in to the effects of eating disorders here in a few minutes, but let us start with the types of disorders. Most people think that the only kinds of eating of eating disorders are anorexia and bulimia, but that is not the case – you do not have to be stick thin to have an eating disorder. We will write a custom essay sample on Binge eating disorder or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page There is anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and the one that people do not think about it called binge-eating disorder. Each of these are extremely detrimental to one’s physical and psychological health. So, let us talk about some symptoms of these disorders and see if any of them sound familiar. Anorexia nervosa is probably the most common and is characterized by an emaciated figure and an extremely restricted eating. There is an obsession with being thin and having thin role models and a total unwillingness to get to and keep a healthy weight. Along with that, there is an extreme fear of gaining weight as well (Pinel, 2011). With this fear comes self-esteem issues, a distorted body image – I bet there are a lot of you in here that think that you have weight to lose but the truth is, you do not. You are not seeing that you are dangerously thin even though you clearly are but we are going to help you get back to being physically and mentally healthy. When you are not getting adequate nutrition because of eating little to no food, women and young girls will no longer have their menstrual cycles because the body is too weak. Being obsessed with weight, people with anorexia nervosa tend to weigh themselves repeatedly, portion food and eat very small quantities are certain foods – no fats, no carbs, no sugars (Pinel, 2011). Just like with drugs, some people get better after one bout of anorexia nervosa, while some relapse and some, unfortunately, lose the battle as their health declines. Now, here is some of the scarier stuff that happens to our bodies with anorexia nervosa. Your bones thin, which is called osteoporosis); your hair and nails become brittle; your skin becomes dry and yellow because your liver stops functioning correctly. A condition called lanugo starts which is when thin, fine hair starts to grow all over the body; you become anemic and your muscles become weak and start wasting away; you becoming severely constipated as well as develop multi-organ failure. You get low blood pressure as well as slow breathing and pulse; brain damage and damage to the structure and function of the heart occurs, including heart disease and heart attacks; your internal body temperature drops which causes you to be cold all of the time and you start to feel very lethargic and tired all of the time. Lastly, if your condition continues, you can become infertile but you need to be at a healthy weight to be able to carry a baby anyway. Do these symptoms sound fun to anyone? You group a couple of these together, and you could lose your life. Is it worth it? Up next, bulimia nervosa is characterized by frequently recurring episodes of binge eating with a loss of control of being able to stop. Following the binge eating is forced vomiting, excess use of laxatives, excessive exercise or a combination to get rid of the food because of the guilt that is felt from eating so much; this is often called binge-purge syndrome or binging and purging (Pinel, 2011). Believe it or not, people with bulimia nervosa often maintain what would be a healthy weight or even might be slightly overweight in some cases. People with bulimia nervosa binge and purge for the same reason that people with anorexia nervosa do not eat: for a fear of gaining weight and being unhappy with their size and shape. This binge and purge cycle can happen anywhere from once or twice per week to a few times per day (Pinel, 2011). With bulimia nervosa, you have pretty much all of the side effects of anorexia nervosa plus a few more. You will have a chronic sore and inflamed throat because of the stomach acid coming up, as well as swollen salivary glands in the throat. The enamel on your teeth will also wear down because of the stomach bile as well which will cause tooth decay and teeth that will easily break. You will develop acid reflux disorder as well as other gastrointestinal problems and intestinal pain and irritation from the use of laxatives. Severe dehydration will occur from purging all fluids as well as an electrolyte imbalance which can lead to a heart attack (Pinel, 2011). Stomach acid it incredibly damaging to esophagus and mouth so throwing that up is really bad. I had gallbladder disease about a year ago and involuntarily throwing up twice or three times per day made my throat and teeth constantly hurting because of the stomach acid and I still suffer from acid reflux disorder. Binge-eating disorder is when a person loses control over his or her eating (Pinel, 2011). Binge-eating, however, does not involve the purging or any other way of getting rid of the food like bulimia nervosa. People with binge-eating disorder are often over-weight or obese because they are not getting rid of or working off the food that they just consumed. Just like anyone else that is obese, people with binge-eating disorder are at a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure, as well as diabetes, high cholesterol as well as self-esteem issues and psychological issues such as depression (Pinel, 2011). Lindsay, obesity can be caused by genetics but it is also due to a combination of genetics and environment (Pinel, 2011). Genes can control appetite and metabolism but it also depends on what kind of food and how much food you are putting in to your body. Robert, to answer your question, you and your girlfriend are two different people. Your metabolisms work at different rates and maybe she gets more exercise than you. I have a friend that is constantly eating and she is tiny and if I ate half as much food as her, I would gain weight instantly – we are all different. Nancy, maybe you have gotten yourself in to a mental state that, because you want to look like those girls in the magazines, you do not crave food. This is why you have to get in to a routine of eating small meals. If you are still not craving food, go for a run and work up an appetite and then eat. Tyra, maybe when you try to eat, you are eating foods that are too rich. Because you are not eating very much very often, you have to start yourself off with relatively bland foods. If you start off with something too spicy, too fatty or just plain old too heavy, you will feel nauseous. Thank you for your time. I hope to work with each and every single one of you to get you guys back on track.

Free Essays on Othello Essay

Othello Essay Characters play an important role in assisting playwrights in developing themes. In Shakespeare’s Othello the characters play an essential role in being able to communicate the themes of the play and how they are relevant to their society. Othello tells the story of a black man marrying a white woman, whom he murders because he becomes convinced that she is unfaithful. In the text, the characters and their responses to one another inform the audience of the importance of themes, such as class, power and relationships. Through the use of character in Othello, Shakespeare is enabled to communicate the differences in class, power and relationships in relation to society. The character of Iago is used to portray the power in his relationship with Othello. Othello is a powerful military figure, he commands like a â€Å"full soldier†. He is a respected general in the army, being called a â€Å"worthy governor† for the commission of Cyprus. As a soldier, Othello is impenetrable to Iago, so for Iago to destroy Othello, he must find a vulnerability for Othello. By finding Othello’s vulnerability, his relationship with Desdemona, Iago shows he has a great understanding of people. Othello says that Iago â€Å"knows all qualities with a learned spirit of human dealings.† By being able to recognize Othello’s weakness, Iago shows himself to be perceptive and intelligent. Iago then uses this information to manipulate Othello, whispering ideas of Desdemona’s infidelity, subtly suggesting and implying that Desdemona was in a relationship with Cassio, â€Å"Look to your wife; observe her well with Cassio.† Iago then further cements the idea in Othello’s mind, using his cunning to manipulate circumstantial events, making Othello jealous and desiring to kill Desdemona. The creation, development, and use of mirrors in Northern Renaissance Essay

The creation, development, and use of mirrors in Northern Renaissance Art - Essay Example r in three paintings; Jan van Eycks Arnolfini Portrait, Hans Memlings Virgin and Child and Maarten van Niewenhove, and Petrus Christus Goldsmith in His Shop. All three paintings depict mirrors and all three use the mirror to manipulate both what the viewer sees and also the role the viewer plays within the painting. The aim of this essay, therefore, is to explore in each painting how this manipulation takes place and the purposes of the artist in undertaking such a manipulation. The reflection has long fascinated man-kind, and stories such as the terrible fate of Narcissus, hopelessly in love with his own image, proliferate in ancient literature. From the earliest Greek vases there are depictions of people holding mirrors, which would have consisted of highly polished metal or stone. However, by the time of the Renaissance, glass-working had reached the level of sophistication to allow small, glass mirrors to be produced. The production of clear glass was underway in Venice by the early fifteenth century, creating mirrors which provided a clear reflection with little distortion to the facial features. It is just such mirrors, of humble proportions due to the difficulty of blowing glass large enough to make a bigger surface area, which appear in the painting which will be considered in this essay. Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, depicting Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini and his wife, dates from 1434. It is painted in oils on an oak panel. The painting is immediately striking for the sense of realism that it creates. This is due to two factors; light and perspective. The two figures are depicted centre-left and centre-right of the painting. The faces of both figures are illuminated by the light which streams in from a window on the left of the painting. The chiaroscuro of their clothing gives a sense of depth and richness to the material, while the feet of Arnolfini and the ceiling of the room are in darkness, framing the two figures. Becoming a pilot for a job career Research Proposal

Becoming a pilot for a job career - Research Proposal Example It would be totally exciting to be flying in the clouds. This has always been the ultimate aspiration of one hoping to be a pilot someday. In order to realize that dream, a lot of planning and preparation, research and mind setting are necessary. There are different phases of training involved in this career. But for someone who has his mind and heart set to become a pilot, everything would be possible in due time. The EAA Sport Magazine (2008) has identified another kind of pilot, the Sport Pilot. According to the article, the sport pilot certificate is the easier and least costly way to fly for fun and recreation. Hold a current and valid U.S. driver’s license as evidence of medical eligibility (provided the FAA didn’t deny, revoke, or suspend your last medical certificate application). Alternatively, you can also use a third class airman’s medical to establish medical fitness. Given these classes, it can be deduced that the kind of pilot depends on the experience and training one has obtained. Therefore, a student can decide if he wants additional training to upgrade his level. Experience in this career is measured in the number of flying hours recorded in one’s logbook. In EAA Sport Magazine (2008), the cost of flight training to become a pilot was actually reduced considerably. This was made possible by the elimination of burdensome medical examinations and certifications. Their first step is to join their organization, EAA. By being a member, only $40 per year is paid. Secondly, ‘†the cost of flight training varies by which type of aircraft you want to learn to fly. The cost for airplane flight training is approximately $2,800 - $3,500. You can learn to fly a powered parachute for between $800 and $1,000†. The trainee has the option to pay for the training on a per lesson basis. A typical lesson is from one

Ethics of end of life care Essay Example for Free

Ethics of end of life care Essay Ethics often play a big role in end of life care in terminally ill people, such as the case of Hassan Rasouli, a man who was left with brain damage following surgery. Doctors determined that the man had no quality of life and that they had intended to remove him from life support measures that were necessary to keep him alive. His family quickly objected stating that they wanted him to remain on life support as in there Muslim religion it was imperative to preserve life. Doctors insisted that he should be removed, as there were no signs of life without artificial means, that the facial movements his family thought to be Mr. Rasouli smiling at them were just involuntary movements. The doctors feel that keeping the man on life support is inhumane verses letting him pass peacefully. The doctors have taken the case to the courts. This is an issues that is very common in todays times, with multiple factors playing a part from old age to terminal diseases, many people enact advance directives requarding their end of life care removing the debate of what their wishes were. The courts sided with the family and allowed the man to remain on artificial life support. An evaluation by a neurologist with the University of Western Ontario’s Brain and Mind Institute, found that Mr. Rasouli did in fact have some neurological function and therefor he was declared minimally conscious and not in a persistive vegetative state, however there is not a large difference in the two.

The Gaelic League :: Essays Papers

The Gaelic League After the famine and the institution of Home Rule on Ireland as part of the United Kingdom, the partially broken country, Ireland, became in need of nationalism in its land, along with something that would set the Irish apart from England. Answering the call for leadership in a country with a desperate need for it, Douglas Hyde and Eoin MacNeill stepped up. In 1893, the two joined to form the Gaelic League. The effects of this organization change the success of Ireland as a country. The Gaelic League was not only a source of nationalism and unity for the country, the league also gave Ireland a sense of uniqueness from its dominating and overbearing neighbor, England. The League eventually helped the country gain its independence. The Gaelic League did, however, experience great difficulties throughout its existence and became a factor in the eventual civil war in Ireland. The Gaelic League was designed by Douglas Hyde and Eoin MacNeill in order to separate Ireland from England. Similar to today, when countries do not want to loose their customs and traditions to the American customs and traditions, Ireland was striving to maintain its sense of individuality. Ireland, from the perspective of other nations, was just part of the United Kingdom and considered under the control of England (MacDonagh 68). Hyde and MacNeill, along with many others, were not content with the partial freedom Ireland received from the Home Rule Act. The act gave Ireland a chance to hold its own parliament, but would keep English institutions and speak English as their national language. In order to keep the Gaelic language alive, Gaelic speaking and singing contests were held to promote the learning of the language (Brown 94). These contests were associated with the Gaelic Athletic Association which was a precursor to the Gaelic League. The Gaelic Athletic As sociate created teams from Ireland which would compete against each other, creating another source of income, although very minimal, for some peasants and another part of the economy for a financially weak country. These speaking competitions eventually lead to the creation of the Gaelic League. The goal of The Gaelic League was to maintain the Irish language by teaching it in schools.

Cross-cultural Communication and French Culture

Individual Assignment: â€Å"Euro Disneyland† 1. Using Hofstede’s four cultural dimensions as a point of reference, what are some of the main cultural differences between the United States and France? PDI: Power Distance IDV: Individualism MAS: Masculinity UAI: Uncertainty Avoidance PDI: Power Distance IDV: Individualism MAS: Masculinity UAI: Uncertainty Avoidance The main cultural differences when using the Hofstede dimensions are in the dimensions Power Distance and Uncertainty Avoidance. It is clear that French culture accepts and welcomes a relatively big power gap. This means that it is hirarchical country where power and the flow of information is determined much more by hierarchy then in America, where this gap is less accepted by people with less power. The other big difference is France’s hight level of uncertainty avaoidance. The French would like to control the future as much as possible, they are not risk takers. The Americans on the other hand have lo w uncertainty avoidance that makes them risk takers, this coppeled with extremely high indiviualism and very low power distance makes them very entrepreneurial. They act on their own and are less likely to accept the status quo when someone has more power then them. French culture also has low masculinity which means it’s a femini culture. This means that soft skills and the family are very important in France. This can be seen by France’s extensive social welfare systhem. 2. In what way has Trompenaars research helped explain cultural differences between the United States and France? Trompenaars research is based on 46000 managers from over 40 countries who answered questionnaires based on their experiences in many different cultures.Trompenaar and his colleague Charles Hampden-Turner (â€Å"The Seven Dimensions of Culture† 2012) created a model where national culture is determined by 7 dimensions. First an important dimension is the individualism – colle ctives dimension. Americans are very individualistic. In the French culture work, decision-making and power is attributed to the collective. This can also be also seen in the Achievement vs. Ascription dimension. In America individual achievement is valued highly. France’s culture is more â€Å"Ascription† based, that means that the title and status you were born into determines your social level more then individual contribution. This is called â€Å"reproduction sociale. † The research is valuable because the methology is fact based and quantitative. The 7 dimensions look at factors that are not deemed relevant by Hofstede and give a more in depth picture of cultural differences. 3. In managing its Euro Disneyland operations, what are three mistakes that the company made? The biggest mistake first and foremost was that Disney did not understand the needs and behaviour of the customer. The customer was severely misunderstood and that let to many operational and cultural mistakes.Only 40% of the customers were French, many were vacationing Americans and Japanese. The French people expected to be able to buy wine and Disney initially did not offer it. Large luxury hotels were built for people who were expected to spend a week in the parks, however Europeans see theme parks as daytrips. Mistakes were made when misjudging breakfast and lunch routines and dishes, witch lead to long lines and bad service. The second mistake was not being able to convince the French that Disneyland is not an American assault on French culture. The French society was hostile from early on. Public intellectuals called the park an assault on French culture and farmers blocked the entrance of the theme park on opening day. The third mistake was the high pricing of tickets and hotel nights. Europeans have more vacation days then Americans, with similar income levels that means that the French have less expendable income per vacation day then the Americans. Disneyland r eacted to the mistakes by changing the name to â€Å"Disneyland Paris† this created a stronger bond with the city and France. Then wine was sold and the dining experience was adapted to meet customer needs. Also day ticket and hotel nights were cut by a third. The result of the changes was an increase in visitors from 8. 8 million in 1994 to 11. 7 in 1996. Based on its experience, what are three lessons the company should have learned about how to deal with diversity? The biggest lesson that they should have learned is that cultural differences matter. It is not possible to take the exact same concept that is working in America and apply it in another cultural context and then expect the same outcomes. This is especially relevant when it comes to behaviour. The second lesson is trying to have a better understanding of who the customer is and what he wants before the launch. Extensive customer research has to be done. In the Euro Disney case many of the customers where not Frenc h and many of the French customers did not want or expect to eat the best French food in Disneyworld. They saw Disneyworld as American and therefor expected an American customer experience that included, self-service and American food. However they also expected wine, so research is needed to understand the subtleties, what French culture can be left out when offering an American experience and what cannot. The entry into a market has to be careful and transparent in order to get more local support. The discussions with the government and the local population should not only be about the tax benefit Disney can get, but heavily focused on the positive effects Disney can bring to a host nation. These advantages, such as jobs and increased tourism have to vehemently communicated to the public. The third lesson is to focus on opening new theme parks in emerging economies. Not only are there less attractions to compete with, Disneyland Paris is competing with the city of Paris for tourists , but also are they more open to western influences and products. Disney symbolises America. So sell America where there is demand for her, like China. The Dangers of Online Dating - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1260 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/02/05 Category Sociology Essay Level High school Tags: Online Dating Essay Did you like this example? Over the years the trend of online dating has increased dramatically. It has become more popular over the years due to all of its many benefits, like easy access to millions of people, the ability to talk to people with having to meet face to face. Unfortunately, every great thing comes with risks, and if you are not careful the risks can be life-altering. Will the risks of online dating outweigh the benefits? Commercials and advertisements only show the good side of online dating, but I feel people should be aware of the dangers as well. There are many sites dedicated to online dating. Most sites try to appeal to a certain group of people. Sites like Christian Mingle appeal to Christians, while Farmers Only appeals to people who like to farm. Tinder is another site that usually appeals to the younger generation. There are many sites like these that appeal to people of certain backgrounds, sexualities, and hobbies. Other sites like eHarmony and Match.com appeal to no specific person. Every one of these sites still works the same way, you create a profile, you answer questions about your likes and dislikes, your hobbies, dreams, family, and education. After creating your profile, the site finds â€Å"matches†, which are people who you share similarities with. When looking through your matches and you find a person that you like, you start a conversation with them and hopefully begin to date. Online dating is very simple and that alone attracts many people to want to try it out, but what people do not realize is that there are many dangerous things that can happen to you when you choose to meet strangers online. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Dangers of Online Dating" essay for you Create order When meeting someone through an online site the only thing you know about them is what they tell you and what they put on their profile. This fact alone puts you at risk for many dangerous outcomes. One of the less dangerous risks is being catfished. Catfished is when someone creates an online profile but uses someone else’s pictures and information. The catfisher usually is a person who is uncomfortable with their own appearance, so they hide behind someone else’s pictures. They then befriend the victim and usually catch feelings for one another. MTV has a tv show that is named Catfished. When someone is in a strictly online relationship and think they are being catfished, they contact the show to find out the truth. Nev and Max set out to investigate the person in question and try to decide if they are real or fake. They then take the person who contacted the show and brings them to meet the person they are dating. Sometimes they are telling the truth but most of the time they are caught trying to be someone else. In this tv show, most of the catfishers do not mean any harm but feel as if the victim would not have given them the chance if they knew what they really looked like. Sometimes there is a happy ending and the victim forgives the catfisher, other times it makes the victim feel like they cannot trust that person anymore, so they end the relationship. Not every risk is as harmless as being catfished. Even though you talk to this person and feel like you know them does not mean you know what their true motives are. When talking to people online you are essentially taking the chance of talking to a con-artist, rapist, or a murderer. Con-artists like to manipulate people into doing things for them, like giving them money or doing a crime. The person who is being manipulated usually does not even notice until it is too late. By the time the authorities are notified the con-artist is long gone, and sometimes hard to trace if they used false information to make their profile. A lot of rape victims say they met their abuser online. Some rapists talk to the victim, ask them out on a date with the sole intention of raping them. Other times the rapists earn their trust, takes them on a date and tries to persuade the victim to have sex with them. When the victim says no, the rapists will continue anyways. Unfortunately, murderers think the s ame way. Sometimes the murder’s sole intention is to murder the victim. Other times the victim does something the murder does not like, which results in their death. Carole Markin, whose children fell victim to rape after she met someone online, filed a lawsuit for dating sites to change their policies. The lawsuit resulted in Match.com, and other companies, doing background checks on every applicant before their account is approved. They are required to report any knowledge or suspicions of criminal activity to the Attorney General’s Office. They also try to verify the information given to them to create profiles. (Coleman) These procedures help to minimize the chance of falling victim to con-artists, rapists, and murder’s but it does completely eliminate it. If you can look past all the possible dangers, or take extreme caution when meeting new people, there are several benefits to online dating. Online dating gives people who suffer from social anxiety and other social disorders. The chance to meet and talk to people who they would otherwise be too scared to talk to. Some people want to date but cannot seem to find the time to go out and meet new people. This is where dating sites come in handy. Online dating sites allow you to meet people without having to actually go out and find them, it also gives you access to people who you would otherwise never have access to. It connects you to people all over the world, not just your hometown. Another benefit of online dating is that the site matches you with people who share a common interest, lifestyles, etc. This prevents you from wasting time getting to know someone that you have absolutely nothing in common with. Online dating can be very useful, but it is always best to take precautions w hen you plan to meet someone off the internet in person. The danger of meeting someone from the internet not only applies to dating sites but to other online sites like Craigslist. Recently I read a news article where a guy would advertise on Craigslist as a Santa for hire. Customers would hire him to dress up as Santa for parties and other events for children. He has done this type of work for 30 years. What people did not know was that he was a registered sex offender. Many unknowing families put their children in the presence of a sex offender without even realizing it. He did not try to hurt any of the children but what if he would have? That is such a scary thought. When doing anything online whether trying to find the love of your life or trying to find someone to do a job for you always be mindful of the potential dangers. There is no real way to eliminate the dangers associated with online, you can only try to make sure you are not putting yourself in a dangerous situation. If you are going on a date, make sure you meet in a public setting and always let someone know where you are at all times. If you are looking to hire someone to do a job for you make sure to do a thorough background check and always check references, especially if they will be around children.
